Confirmation Preparation is designed for teen disciples who are minimum age 13. The goal is to help our families raise mature disciples (learners, practioners and proponents of The Way), more specifically — 1) help them name and claim the experience of the Lord in their lives; 2) help them put words to and share their faith; 3) help them develop an intimate relationship with the Lord; 4) help them come to know themselves and orient themselves to growing as human beings from the standpoint of Christian Anthropology (the study of humanity from a Christian/biblical perspective; and 5) help them commit to living out the life of disciple- ship as a member of the Body of Christ – being involved in the life of our parish and our Church. It continues with their regular participation in our Sunday Eucharist Liturgy, the Mass!
This two year process includes the disciple’s regular participation in the Sunday Liturgy, the monthly EMMAUS DiscipleFests, 2-3 preparation sessions per month, the monthly high school Youth Group, one annual parish youth retreat, and the spring Youth Day, SYNERGY (a Spring youth gathering). In addition, there are two informal one-on-one conversations, which allows us to check-in with the parents and talk about the disciple’s readiness. One of these conversations takes place at the beginning of the preparation process and the other conversation prior to scheduling the actual Confirmation date.
Retreats are a proven way to be effective in building community and growing closer to the Faith. They are times to get away from daily routines and a good reflection on God in their lives. They also provide an environment and an opportunity for young people to share their faith stories and build relationships of trust. Here is a chance for everyone to have a lot of fun and to play and pray together as one community and one Church.
Candidates will be assigned a Mentor that will assist them in their growth as Catholic disciples and to help evaluate their readiness for the sacrament. These Mentors will meet with their assigned teens at least monthly. It’s important to note that the role of the Mentor does not, however, replace the role of the candidate’s Sponsor or Parents.
