Don't Look Back!
Just as Elijah calls Elisha to be the next prophet, putting his cloak around him (a symbol of his authority passing on), Jesus calls us to put on his yoke and follow him in discipleship.
The yoke that holds oxen together was a well-understood metaphor in the ancient world. St. Paul tells us not to "submit again to the yoke of slavery" (Gal. 5:1), but it's easy to look back to a life of comfort and pleasure, especially when faced with the prosecution that following Christ entails. But when God calls us, we must follow for there lies the only path to life in abundance!
