Ministries - Volunteer Opportunities
Our Mission
Our mission is to embody the love of Christ by serving those in need with compassion, dignity, and hope. Guided by the Gospel and Catholic social teaching, we strive to build a just and caring community through acts of mercy, outreach and advocacy. Through our service, we seek to be the hands and heart of Christ, bringing His light and healing to the community.
Please check out our Community Outreach Ministries that The Church of St. Luke is involved with. If you see any you are interested in and want more information, please send an email listed to the designated contact for more information about the ministry.

Outreach
Our calling & inspiration is from the Matthew 25 gospel message: "What you do to the least of my brethren you do to me". Our Mission is to serve our neighbors in need, within our parish, and our East County & San Diego County community with material & financial aid, encouragement & spiritual support. We do home visits to validate need and either provide direct financial support or refer individuals to resources to get the needed help. Our Outreach Committee meets every 4th Tuesday of the month at 3:30 pm in the church office conference room. Guests or friends of Outreach are always welcome to our meetings. For info contact: Mike Wasyliw, Outreach Chairperson, at 619-715-8801 or mjwasyliw@gmail.com

Prison Ministry - Youth
The Youth Prison Ministry serves the two San Diego youth detention facilities, Youth Transition Center in Kearney Mesa and East Mesa Juvenile Detention Facility in south county. Our mission is to evangelize the 14-18 year old boys and girls, that is to bring Jesus to them, His person, His salvation, His Way, Truth, and Life. We hope to plant seeds of faith which will lead to repentance, spiritual growth, conversion and eventually to dedicated discipleship.
We currently have a group of 24 men and women volunteers, most of whom dedicate one or two hours on most Sundays to visit youths who volunteer to come to our sessions. Typically, two ministers meet 2 to 6 youths per one-hour session in each of the different units where they are detained. The gospel is a common starting point for our discussions, which can go in many unpredictable directions. We sense the Holy Spirit at work in this ministry!

St. Paul Street Evangelization
St. Paul Street Evangelization is a grassroots, non-profit organization, dedicated to responding to the mandate of Jesus to preach the Gospel to all nations by taking our Catholic Faith to the streets. We do this in a non-confrontational way, allowing the Holy Spirit to move in the hearts of those who witness our public Catholic presence. The evangelists “set up shop” with a sandwich-board sign and a collection of materials: assorted pamphlets on aspects of Catholicism, holy cards, Rosaries, Miraculous Medals, etc. We use a small table for displaying the materials and drawing the attention of passersby. The East County Chapter witnesses twice weekly from 5 to 7 pm Tuesdays and Fridays.
