First Communion &
Reconciliation
First Eucharist and First Reconciliation preparation is designed for our young disciples who have already been baptized and are preparing to receive the sacraments of Eucharist and Reconciliation for the first time.
We recognize parents (inclusive of guardians) as the primary catechists and models of faith for their children. Regular attendance in our Sunday Eucharist Liturgy (the Mass) is essential!
This two-year or more process has the following requirements:
- in addition to the faith formation fee, payment of the ‘sac prep’ fee each year,
- the disciple’s regular attendance in the Sunday Liturgy,
- attendance at the EMMAUS Disciple Fests,
- attendance at weekly sessions in the faith formation program (CGS or youth group),
- completion of the two year at-home study program, “Growing Up Catholic”- an online program furnished through Google Classroom,
- required parent meetings throughout the preparation process
- an informal private, and in-person, conversation with parent and child which will allow us to discern together on the disciple’s readiness.
- disciple and parent to attend the one day Reconciliation Retreat in March - check parish calendar
- disciple must be the age of 7 by the day of their First Holy Eucharist,
- presence at the First Holy Eucharist Mass in May - check parish calendar (both sacramental prep years)
In order to help you and your child grow spiritually together, The Church of Saint Luke, in cooperation with the Growing Up Catholic religious education program, has developed a series of videos to help you, the parent, guide your child through First Eucharist.
The videos are provided using YouTube and are designed for you to help the children understand the monthly lessons and to help start conversations or thoughts that will help when beginning each lesson. Each video features one of our two catechists, Patty or Judy, who will guide you on your journey with your child towards receiving First Eucharist and First Reconciliation.
Along with the Growing Up Catholic (GUC) video series, there are links to other useful text or videos to grasp the material at hand.
