Parish Life
Learning, Living & Sharing the Way
Parish life is where your faith comes alive. It’s more than just attending Mass—it’s about being part of a community that prays together, learns together, serves together, and grows together. Whether you’re receiving a sacrament, joining a ministry, helping those in need, or simply sharing a smile after Mass, you are part of something bigger: a family of faith walking side by side on the journey with Christ.

Our Mission
To promote the spirit of welfare of the women of the
Church of St. Luke and to lend support to our
Church and community.
Las Madrinas is a group of women from the Church of St. Luke who volunteer their time, talent and treasure to fund raise and support the many needs of our Parish and the community.

Las Madrinas
Our History: Las Madrinas, the Ladies Guild of the Church of St. Luke, was formed in 1986.
Our various fundraising activities generate the funds we use to help support our Church. Our fundraisers began with craft sales and bake sales.
In 1992 we presented our first fashion show. Our first two fashion shows were held at Singing Hills. In addition to our own fashion shows, Nordstrom's held breakfast/fashion show fundraisers on our behalf. Since the construction of our Church building, the fashion show has been in our own church hall, O'Donnell Hall.
Las Madrinas has also hosted ice cream socials, spaghetti dinners, coffee and donuts after Mass and Christmas home tours. We have sponsored guest speakers and dinners as well as bunco nights.
Among some of the items we have purchased for our Church are:
Baptism Font - Vestments - Cups for Wine and Host
Baptistery Nativity Scene - Crucifix for the Procession Cross
Altar Linens - Church hall chairs
Among the organizations and activities we have financially supported are:
Building Fund - St. Vincent de Paul - Camp Oliver - Noah Homes
Rachel House - Big Ten - San Diego Coalition for the Homeless
Youth Group - Church/Knights golf tournaments
Bible Study - Dinners for Catechist's Training Sessions
Church anniversary parties - Friends of the Poor

Knights of Columbus
We invite practicing Catholic men age 18 years and older to foster support for their Parish Life Director and parish.
The Knights of Columbus is a world wide organization that promotes Catholic education and charity, provides education and homes for Catholic orphans, endows scholarships in Catholic colleges, provides lectures on Catholic doctrine, endows hospital beds and provides for its sick and retired members.
In the local community, the Knights provide support for the Parish Life Director, sponsor local events both in the church and in the community and provide help and funds for those in need. Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month.
If you are interested in becoming a Knight or would like more information, please contact Pablo Perez at (760) 481-2966 or email at pperez760@gmail.com.

Crochet/Knitting Ministry
The Yarning Ministry brings together crocheters and knitters who collaborate and direct their creative skills toward supporting an organization(s) chosen by the Outreach Committee. The primary aim is to produce handmade items which will be donated to those in need. Participants will gather once or twice a month providing time for fellowship, skill sharing, and the exchange of crochet and knitting patterns and ideas. Members can learn from one another and grow in their craft. For more information, contact Linda Kiki for information at 619-793-6365 or kiki@cox.net
Young Adult Group 18-39
Our Young Adult Ministry exists to help young adults build an authentic Catholic community and grow in discipleship during an important season of life. In a world where the first space is often home and the second space is work or school, we strive to make the Church a meaningful “third space” rooted in faith, fellowship, and Catholic identity. Through prayer, discussion, formation, social gatherings, and opportunities for service, young adults are invited to deepen their relationship with Christ and one another. We meet on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Mondays of the month from 7:00–9:00 PM at St. Luke Catholic Church. All young adults ages 18–39 are welcome. For more information, please contact Jonathan Mansir, Coordinator of Youth and Young Adult Ministry at

Small Church Groups
A small church group is a group of usually 8-12 parishioners that meet on a regular basis to socialize, read scripture or other spiritual material, discuss in support of their faith journeys and pray for each other’s intentions. Sharing is always optional and confidential, but as the group builds bonds of trust and fellowship, real relationships are developed, faith grows and matures, and we acquire a confidence in sharing our faith with others when our Lord prompts us. It’s a great way to grow in faith and confidence and build lifelong friendships. For more information, contact Rich Warcholik att

COR – Men’s Bible Study
COR, the Latin word for heart, and the root of word courage, is a ministry that consistently and frequently bring men together to center their lives and friendships on Christ through intentional time of prayer and formation. It offers every man in the parish with ongoing opportunities to encounter Christ, grow in his faith, strengthen his prayer life, and transform his friendships. Prayer, formation, and fraternity all begin with the heart, and direct the heart in relationship to God and others. We meet bi-weekly on Tuesday evenings from 6:30p to 8:00p for fellowship, prayer and discussion of the coming Sunday’s scriptures. All men and boys are welcome. Walking with Purpose - Woman’s Bible Study
Walking with Purpose is a Catholic Women's Bible Study program. We currently meet weekly on Tuesday mornings and Tuesday evenings at the Church of St. Luke, using a series created by author and speaker Lisa Brinninkmeyer. Our aim is to grow in our relationship with Jesus Christ as well as increase our knowledge of scripture and the teachings of our Catholic Faith. Widows & Widowers
Our mission is to support, encourage, and serve those who have lost a spouse, so they don’t feel alone and isolated, and to provide opportunities for them to meet their spiritual, emotional, and social needs. Our vision is to build a caring community where widows and widowers can connect, socialize, and, through peer-to-peer support, begin to heal and grow spiritually, find new interests and purpose in life, where shared experiences become a source of renewed hope and strength. We meet once a month. For more information, contact Mina Scannicchio at:

Parish Book Club
Do you enjoy good books and even better conversation? Our parish book club meets once a month (virtually, during the last week of the month) and we’d love to have you join us. We mix up our reading list — some months secular, some months spiritual — so there’s always something new to explore. Each meeting ends with choosing the next book together. Whether you read every page or just want to connect with others, you’re warmly invited. Contact Mary Jo at:

Linen Ministry
Volunteers in the
Linen Ministry are responsible for cleaning, ironing, and maintaining the sacred cloths used during Mass-Corporal, Purificator, and the finger towels. Members ensure these items are pristine and handled with high reverence. Linens are brought home, washed according to specific liturgical guidelines, carefully ironed (often with light starch) to create crisp, specific folds, and returned to the parish sacristy by the weekend. For more information, call
Carol Claybrook at
619-442-2296.
Lay Pastoral Ministry
Our Lay Pastoral Ministry was established to keep in touch with all our parishioners on a regular basis by phone and/or visits when deemed beneficial. Our goal is to be better aware of the trials and needs of our parishioners and offer assistance to meet their needs. We hope in doing so we will also reach those shut in, alienated, fallen away, and disengaged and help reconnect them with love.
